The Heartbeats of Leadership

The rate at which your heart beats per minute can indicate whether or not your heart is working efficiently. If it’s too high while you’re resting, it could be that you’re strained, stressed or possibly facing heart disease and if it’s too low when you’re active it could indicate a poorly performing heart. No matter what, your heartbeat essentially is a good indicator of the health status of the life you are leading. So the analogy of “heartbeats for leadership”comes from just that -effective leaders have their finger on the pulse of the organization, their teams and their work. They recognize that the rhythm of their work influences the “heart rate” of the organization. And at the right rhythm, effective leaders plan strategically, set smart goals navigate competing priorities, and keep track of progress. The most effective leaders with long-standing impact, legacy and influence  are those that commit to their purpose not just with their mind, leadership flows from their hearts!

I can list so many leaders whose heartbeats have impacted me starting with my dad, Raúl, who had such empathy and genuine compassion for the people he supervised; my mom, Gloria, who ran an efficient household while exercising her career in education- all motivated by love and commitment to family; my grandmother, Dolores Medina, who cared deeply about civic duty and empowering others.

I think of leaders I never met - leaders like Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Julia de Burgos who followed their own hearts and wisely led and influenced others to fulfill missions and stand firmly for their cause. Ultimately, I think of Jesus whose entire purpose was love!

They are the best representatives of the motto for JBG LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT -
“Think it through, then LEAD with your Heart! ❤️
